Named after a local hero in the war against the Colonial French, Vietnamese grindcore powerhouse WUU are just as furious and uncompromising as their namesake.
Bringing it more than the standard grindcore influences, their 2011 debut '888' takes in everything from old school death metal to more experimental, electic and electronic styles, bringing them to the attention of internet label GRINDCORE KARAOKE run by AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED'S J RANDALL. Now with a new album out, 2011's "Hoang Tuong", WUU are going to lead a vicious new grindcore uprising at OBSCENE EXTREME ASIA 2013.
Biography
Everything happened at a coffee shop in January, 2011. When 5 members from 5 different bands have a meeting by the time all of their bands is shut down and on hold. Trung (Disgusted), Hoang, Ân (Omerta), Pi (God Father), Khôi (Multiplex). After some boring conversation about their situation at the moment, no bands, no music practice, no metal. Thats sucks ! So they decided to form a new band between these homeless members. When talking about genres, they know that they wont follow any normal form because theres so much difference passions between them. Trung loves brutal death metal, Hoang loves old school death metal, Ân likes thrash, Pi and Khôi deeply involve with hardcore/metalcore genres. But they all love something extreme and straight to the face sounds. The result is a grindcore band with some experimental elements from the other genres like hardcore, thrash, death and even some weird rapping moments in their music. Thats how WUU music sound like. Breaking all the rules !
After forming, they composed around 26 short aggressive songs and enter the studio for the debut album. Which received a lots of positive comment from the local metal scene. They toured a lots in the country and become one of the only extreme metal bands left in Vietnam. But the party last no long . Hoang start working oversea, Khôi and Pi back to their band, which started again after their members came back. Only Trung and Ân left, they decided to keep the band and find new members. Then, Văn who playing bass for another band in local called Deadline joined the project. And Vy, a friend of the band pick up the microphone and do his job. The band is alive again. Trung brought back his old songs which didnt recorded yet and all start composing new elements for the second full-length named Hoang Tuong which released this December. After the album launch, they start touring to Thailand and now heading to Jakarta for the first appearance at Obscene Extreme Festival in their career.
